Kawasaki bikes unveiled

KAWASAKI Malaysia has launched locally assembled 250cc and 800cc bikes.

Although there is a 300cc Ninja variant available as well, which happens to be headed for the United States, among other markets, Kawasaki Malaysia has decided to opt for the Ninja 250 instead, to cater for the larger market of those who possess a B2 motorcycle licence that limits the rider to 250cc bikes.

The new Ninja 250 offers revised styling that has been heavily borrowed from its ZX-6R, ZX-10R and ZX-14R stable mates, which certainly adds a great deal of perceived performance appeal.

It is fitted with an electric starter for the motor, which is fuel-injected with dual throttle valves producing 32bhp at 11,000rpm and 21Nm of torque at 10,000rpm.

All of these get mated to a six-speed manual transmission to help get the Ninja’s 172kg curb weight up to speed. The bike is able to take on about 17 litres of petrol.

With the number of big bikes increasing on local roads, Kawasaki Malaysia figured it made sense to introduce the Z800, which replaces the Z750 with an additional 50cc of engine displacement, and should be a welcome option for those who find the Z1000 too intimidating.

The 229kg Z800, in streetfighter guise, seems a tad hefty, but its four-cylinder 806cc motor pushes out about 110bhp at 10,200rpm and 83Nm of torque at 8,000rpm, making it seem a little acoustically milder than the higher revving Ninja 250, and it should be easier to get the bike going when faced with stop-go traffic.

The Kawasaki Ninja 250 is priced at RM22,589, while the larger Z800 is RM47,989, which could be seen as the next step up from their ER6 N or F that’s popular for beginners.

Can-Am Spyder RS-S - 2012

The 2012 Spyder RS-S generates blood pumping performance that goes beyond mere technical specs. Sure, the exclusive wheels, handlebards, spoiler, even the foot pegs, give the 2012 Spyder RS-S a menacing look. But the new FOX racing Shox front suspension, the muscular 998cc Rotax V-Twin engine and proven Vehicle Stability System gives you one heck of a rode.

The Spyder RS roadster is eye-catching and more than capable of making a sporty impression, however, the Spyder RS-S takes performance and styling to the next level. From its dual-spoke front wheels, contrast-stitched seat, carbon-black aluminum parts, painted front spoiler and A-arm covers, and exclusive graphics the Spyder RS-S roadster is dressed for success on the open road. Available with either the SM5 or SE5 transmissions with reverse.

The Can-Am Spyder RS-S line represents the machine for the rider who has a passion for sporty adventure, and the eagerness to go forth and conquer the open road around the country or just around the block. From its performance-oriented, three-wheel, open-air configuration to its cutting-edge design and sporty stance, the Spyder RS-S roadster from BRP is a legitimate head turner, even when standing still. However, this innovative vehicle, which is purpose-built with an performance attitude, crisp acceleration and the intrinsic ability to tame turns. It looks, rides and performs unlike anything in the powersports industry and that's perfect.
This year, the Can-Am Spyder RS-S-S model gets even more sport performance thanks to a front-end that is updated with Fox Racing Shox front suspension. These shocks feature improved compression and rebound damping performance and a threaded pre-load adjuster. The Spyder RS-S-S also comes in two new, eye-catching colors: Neutron Green Metallic / Satin Black and Can-Am Red / Satin Black.
All Can-Am Spyder RS roadsters are loaded with machismo thanks to its proven Rotax® 998cc V-twin engine. The powerplant, which has great torque and shortens roads with a twist of the throttle, is mated to the two available five-speed transmissions. The electronic five-speed (plus reverse) SE5™ transmission, which is controlled by the left hand (thumb and forefinger) and requires no clutching, is optional. A standard SM5 (manual) five-speed transmission also includes reverse.

The Can-Am Spyder RS roadster models all feature an innovative and stable architecture from BRP. Two forward wheels and a double A-arm design are up front and a swingarm with a mono shock and a single rear wheel drives the machine. The Spyder RS is also outfitted with the Vehicle Stability System (VSS), a system developed in partnership with Bosch. Combine the Y configuration, VSS with proven automotive-derived technologies such as anti-lock braking, traction and stability control and the Can-Am Spyder roadster line offers confidence-inspiring handling and control.

The Spyder RS-S generates blood-pumping performance that goes beyond mere technical specs. Sure, the exclusive wheels, handlebars, spoiler – even the foot pegs – give the Spyder RS-S a menacing look. But the new FOX Racing Shox front suspension, the muscular 998cc Rotax V-Twin engine and proven Vehicle Stability System give you one heck of a ride. It’s a combination that creates a roadster so desperate to be unleashed you can almost hear it snarling.

Suzuki’s hydrogen-powered Crosscage motorcycle

October 25, 2007 Here’s one of the more radical concept motorcycles we’ve seen in a while – Suzuki’s Crosscage concept is a fuel-cell powered electric bike with single-sided suspension front AND rear. The brushless electric motor’s mounted inline with the rear wheel, and looks-wise it’s so far out there that it’s on its way back again. Seems like Bridgestone’s even developed a special futuristic-looking tyre to match the bike’s oddly tesselated discs.

Yamaha set to launch hybrid production motorcycle for 2010

Back in 2005, Yamaha showed the wacky 2005 Gen-Ryu hybrid concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show amidst a raft of other very non-conventional two wheelers such as the aptly named FC-Me fuel cell bike, the ingenious Deinonychus elec tric reconfigurable motorcycle, the Chivicker, Passol and the Maxam two-wheeled limousine. Now it appears certain the bike will become a showroom model in 2010. A series of patent applications detail the new motorcycle which uses the YZF-R6 600cc engine to turn a generator which in turn powers the rear wheel. History shows that every Yamaha styling patent published over the last 20 years has resulted in a full production machine, so there's little doubt this one is also heading for a showroom near you in the very near future.

Custom Builder Eddie Meeks Quantum Leap

It took four years and 2200 man hours to build this one-off custom since most of its parts were designed and milled by Eddie Meeks.

Quantum Leap features rear wheel steering via a series of hydraulic pistons.

Very few parts on Quantum Leap weren't designed and fabricated by renaissance man, Eddie Meeks.

Features like an internal throttle and clutch, air suspension and 360 brakes constitute a clean and tidy custom motorcycle.

Quantum Leap has sleek, streamlined bodywork made of nickel plating.

Quantum Leap ranks as one of the most intriguing custom motorcycles we’ve come across in a long time.

Under Quantum Leap's bodywork is a tubular frame with a touch of flat steel that houses a 101 cubic-inch Patrick Racing V-Twin fed by a Mikuni carb.

Quantum Leap, by Eddie Meeks, turns conventialism on its head with its front wheel drive and rear wheel steering.

Intel-themed Motorcycle

To commemorate 30 years in embedded computing, Intel Corporation today unveiled an Intel-themed and embedded technology-based motorcycle from Orange County Choppers. This 250-horsepower chopper – designed using quad-core Intel computers – is more than just a mechanical powerhouse; it’s also a marvel of embedded technology with an ultra-mobile PC powering fingerprint recognition for security and a digital dashboard with ignition control, digital gauges, cameras that replace rear-view mirrors, integrated audio and video systems, GPS navigation and wireless connectivity.

The custom-built motorcycle, launched simultaneously in the Internet-based virtual world of Second Life, celebrates 30 years of Intel’s innovation and technology leadership in advancing embedded computing. In 1976, before the advent of the personal computer, Intel entered the embedded market and provided extended life cycle support for technologies, silicon and platforms that drive this industry. Intel embedded technology can be found today in automobiles, airplanes, ATMs, information kiosks, telecommunications infrastructure and network storage systems, as well as factory and medical equipment.

Intel engaged with Black Diamond Advanced Technology, a leader in the development of ultra-mobile computing systems, to integrate the motorcycle’s computerized controls and features that protect the computing system from moisture, dirt, shock and vibration and offer a computerized dashboard capable of being detached and used as a mobile PC.

MV AGUSTA F4 R

The new MV Agusta F4 R 2012 has been designed to offer clients a superbike with extreme performance. The key feature of the F4 R is, in fact, the new “Corsa Corta” engine capable of extraordinary performance and already employed on the F4 RR, the top of the MV Agusta superbike range.

The new 4 cylinder inline with radial valves is the pulsing heart of the MV Agusta F4 R. The thermodynamics have been completely redesigned, starting from the new low inertia crankshaft which makes it possible to use a super over-square bore and stroke ratio. In this way, the MV F4 R is capable of reaching rpm worthy of a pure racing motorcycle. The engine capacity of 998cc has been obtained by using a bore of 79 mm and a stroke of only 50.9 mm. In this way  it is possible to achieve an extremely high 13700 rpm rev limit while at the same time lowering the linear velocity of the piston from 24.9 m/s to 23 m/s improving reliability.

Night Rod Special - Harley Davidson

Pitch black and sinister as hell, the Night Rod® Special model is aggressively styled from the front end to the back. Engine, wheels, forks, triple clamps, swingarm—they're all blacked out and thick with uncompromising, drag strip attitude.

ICONIC ENGINE
From the Strip to the Street. Harley-Davidson has a passion for performance that is rooted in decades of racing and winning championships. So when The Motor Company set out to produce a high-powered, liquid-cooled engine, it began with the VR1000 superbike engine. Its performance is inspired by American-style, big, powerful torque coupled with high-end horsepower. The Revolution® engine is the heart of a machine that attracts a breed of riders who are fascinated by the heritage and mystique of Harley-Davidson and the power of a high-end street performance motorcycle.

TECHNOLOGY
Harley-Davidson's Chief Styling Officer, Willie G. Davidson, asked for a frame so beautiful it could sit in a museum. And that's exactly what the Harley-Davidson team of engineers created. Using an innovative process called hydroforming, they were able to form unconventional angles and apply fewer welds by bending and shaping metal pipes with high-pressure water. The result: a sturdy chassis with improved rigidity. To date, The Motor Company is the only major motorcycle manufacturer to use hydroforming to construct frames.
The factory installed next-generation security system features a hands-free fob that automatically arms and disarms the vehicle electronic security functions as you approach and walk away from the bike. Stick the fob on your ignition key ring and let it do all the work. It's this attention to details and security that make Harley-Davidson® motorcycles unique.
